I find it to be highly annoying and slowing down my workflow to not be able to create new elements (posts/pages/post-type instances) in the menu editor, but having to switch back to another admin area. It would be cool to be able to on the fly add empty elements in the menu admin area that would later be filled with content.

We could re-use QuickPress, I guess.

This seems like plugin territory to me. #14966 would make it easy for a plugin to add a post box here.
