I am surprised this issue has not been addressed yet so what I am proposing is the following:

Whenever a metabox is displayed on the menu management page the items within this metabox should be sorted by their default Wordpress sort order so their order shows up exactly like they do within the admin post list pages.

For hierarchical pages the menu items should be presented in a hierarchical type view (just like a hierarchical categories/terms).

Currently the tab on top shows ""most used"" but I feel what I mentioned above is far more logical as the default and the user should be able to select from ""most used"" and possibly even ""alphabetically"".
