- Keywords 3.2-early added; i18n-change removed
- Milestone changed from 3.1 to Future Release
Wishful thinking. News sounds like the planet. WordPress should have a Blog. But that ship sailed and I lost :-)

I'd describe the thing as "WordPress Announcements" but that could be priming the walls of the bikeshed in the drydock of the harbor of the ship that has already sailed.

Two problems for the future record, if we are in string freeze: 1) the help tab text refers to WordPress Blog while screen options and the screen itself still call it WordPress Development Blog and 2) there are tens of millions of "WordPress Blogs" out there, maybe 100 blogs about WordPress but this one is more distinctively the one of official WordPress Announcements.

It's currently /news/ on WP.org and "WordPress News" something I've fought over because WordPress certainly ought to have an official WordPress Blog. What's distinctive isn't the official announcements, it's that its our main blog. I don't think it's confusing, and the original switch to /news/ was not prompted by confusion with another option of /blog/.
I changed it to "WordPress Blog" instead of "WordPress News," because that's what it is throughout core (for now).
Anyway, your dashboard only says that because your install is older than 3.0. If you click "Configure" in the title of the widget, you can set your own title (and even feed). Screen Options uses that.

Replying to nacin:

Also, because WordPress News conflicts with Other WordPress News, which is the name of the widget for the planet. To me, WordPress Blog should be our official blog, and WordPress News should be news in general, i.e. the planet. One day I might win that battle on WP.org too. :-)
