Requesting Feature to Add Page Template Options from Plugins

I would like to request a feature to be added to the core, where you can add page templates included from a plugin to be chosen when adding or editing a page. I think this is a missing feature and we should have some way to intercept the page templates and add our own via a filter of some sort.
