wordpress removes the comments in posts

this makes it hopeless to use things like:

<!--adsense#some_id-->

The following makes it bug with the classic theme/no plugins installed:

__test__ -- this is a test post skjldkjsql ls jlsdqj qljds qldjsql dsqldqlsjq sqmklsdqlmdq

<!--more-->

more text here

<!--adsense-->

and even more here

it removes xml tags too, e.g.:

<adsense />

gets stripped too.

though.... on closer inspection, it seems that what is occuring is that I am not saving the edits to my own post.

another update:

actually, the post does get updated, but it is 'restored' somehow (are there some kind of cookie around?) when I reedit the post. I'm using FF.

Umm, I am able to post HTML comments in posts perfectly fine...

And HTML comments are stipped from non-logged in comments though as they are non-allowed HTML tags.
