This would of course mean adding to the install script, and providing some sort of fallback to the original ""default"" method if htaccess is unwritable, but should be something that is at least attempted by the wizard.

I mention this because as I'm writing this simple ""8 steps to installing WordPress"" slide, I realize that Step 9 must be ""go to Settings > Permalinks and turn Post name on"". Everytime. So let's just make it default behaviour.",enhancement,closed,normal,,Permalinks,3.5,normal,duplicate,,
