Description

Hi, the new media library is great but if you have a site with a lot of images, it is really hard to find anything.

My suggestion would be to allow admins to create a folder structure for media files, so that content can be grouped accordingly. If folders are not an option, then I would at least like to see tags as a taxonomy for media files. Anybody who has more than 100 files of media in the library can't possibly be happy about how they find their media.

Thanks for considering this. I know it's been a request in the forums for something like 3 years now, and there was a lot of hope in the community that the new media library would accommdate for this.

NextGen Gallery probably comes closest to what I am thinking of, but sometimes you don't want a bloated gallery plugin when all you want to do is categorize your media library files..

You can already register taxonomies for media. With #21391 it became also easier. Here is an example plugin.

Thanks ocean90,

however I believe that is exactly my point. 95% of the users won't understand how to sort their content using the metadata, let alone playing with the functions.php file.

Is there no way to increase usability here a little bit? To me, a heavy WP user for many year, it comes as no surprise that a (now semi-commercial) plugin like Nextgen is so popular. Wordpress is really far behind when it comes to media management, and your answer (no blame, I understand) confirms this.

Again, I'd appreciate if you could share with the team if there is a way to increase the usability of media management in Wordpress, without having to make a lot of tweaks, rather "out of the box".

Thanks!

T.

Kind of related #14370

  • Version changed from trunk to 3.5.1

Change version back, not sure why it changed.

  • Keywords close added

I aso agree with ocean90 for closing this. Yes categorizing of media would be cool to have but for now it seems a plugin can deal with that. Terms does really help out but you probably need some extra stuff

Also just saying something global what you do now doesn't help. Also not 95% of the users would see this as an issue. No clue what the percentage would be. To me the new dialog does really help out. And if you can be specific on how to make it better please point out but be specific on it.
