in FrontPage the current options are:

-Your Latest Posts
-Select Static Page

a good new option is: Select a category (to filter news in Frontpage)

This seems more like something which should be left to a plugin. Given that there are some really good plugins that do this sort of thing (Category Visibility, etc).
