Unable to create link category hierarchies

Description

The link categories are not listed in the category parent select box, so currently there is not way to create link category hierarchies.

Not a dupe, however it is a wontfix. Link category hierarchy support in versions < 2.3 was more accidental than intentional. That's why it doesn't work so well. 2.3 removes the half-assed support for it.

So what happens to users who have created extensive link category hierarchies? Will all the hierarchical information be lost during upgrade to 2.3?
