Dropdown fields in admin interface are always too short

In the new admin interface, as often in the older one, the dropdown fields are quite always too short (there is any size definition for them) and this show up more in localization (for me in italian) where the english words are often translated using more chars in the locale, resulting that translated text is truncated for 2, 3 chars at minimum.

Adding a class to them and correct settings in the css files would be nice, in som cases a inline size setting could be necessary.

Given this refers to the 2.5UI and not the 2.7, I'm closing, However, Feel free to re-open if it still applies.
