#7571 closed defect (bug) (worksforme)

Widget Admin area: Allow content of widgets to be selected

Reported by: luckyblog Owned by: anonymous
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: General Version: 2.6
Severity: normal Keywords: widget, content, select, copy, paste

Description

In the Design -> Widgets admin area, click the "edit" button on e.g. a Text Widget.

Note that when editing the contents of the text widget, it is possible to Paste content from the clipboard (e.g. using CTRL V), however, it is currently not possible (WP2.6, IE7) to select content within the window (using mouse selecting or SHIFT arrowkey).

This makes it harder to edit the window (e.g. one cannot select a large area of no-longer-wanted text to then delete - instead, one must use the delete key repeatededly)

It also makes it hard to copy the contents of the widget to store elsewhere for safekeeping - e.g. while updating or changing themes, keeping the contents of the widgets safe in case they dissappear on those changes.

This is true for other widgets too - e.g. RSS widgets etc. None of them are selectable.

So it would be great if the content of widget form text areas could be selected, to aid copying / deleting content.

  • Milestone changed from 2.7 to 2.8

Valid suggestion. We'll be redoing widgets management in 2.8, so I'm moving this ticket there.

  • Type changed from enhancement to defect (bug)

I wonder if that is an IE7 thing, since I can select widget contents in FF3. Anyone else unable to select widget contents?

  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from new to closed

I haven't been able to reproduce this, and no one else has commented about it, so I am closing ticket, assuming it was a problem specific to user and not continuing.
