#10100 closed enhancement (fixed)

Some theme-installer strings need differenciation to take masculine/feminine form into account

Description

In 2.8, the following string:

Recently Updated

...applies to the Dashboard, the plugin installer, and the theme installer:

wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php:766

wp-admin/plugin-install.php:31

wp-admin/theme-install.php:36

Since originally it only applied to plugins (translated in FR as the feminine 'Extensions'), it translated to 'Mises à jour récemment'.

Now that it also applies to themes (translated in FR as the masculine 'Thèmes'), the initial translation does not work.

Current workaround is to translate into the neutral 'Mises à jour récentes', which works for both. But it'd be nice to have differenciation for 2.8.1.

  • Summary changed from 'Recently Updated' string needs differenciation to take masculine/feminine form into account to Some theme-installer strings need differenciation to take masculine/feminine form into account

In fact, it's not one but three strings that should take that into account:

Original strings:

  • Featured |
  • Newest |
  • Recently updated

fr_FR translation (originally for plugins, so feminine):

  • Mises en avant |
  • Nouvelles |
  • Mises à jour récemment

For good measure, maybe "Popular" should also be contuextualized ('Populaires' is neutral in French, but what about other locales?).

(In [12103]) Provide context to the strings in the Plugin and Theme installers to allow for different grammatical gender. Fixes #10100.
