No way of determining current WP version when an upgrade is available

Description

When a new WordPress upgrade is available, there is nowhere in the admin area that tells you the version you're currently running (the version number in the footer is replaced with an upgrade message).

I'd like to suggest that the upgrade message in the footer is removed and left as the current version number, as the upgrade alert message shown at the top of the page is sufficient.
