file uploading fails

Reported by: nndt Owned by: dd32
Milestone: Priority: normal
Severity: normal Version: 2.8.5

When uploading files, whether .jpg, .pdf or .doc, the file will not be available. in the case of an image, the src attribute is as follows:
I believe the file uploader is not uploading to the right location, though it could be that wp is not calling the file correctly. If you upload files to this location via ftp though, and point the src to the file, it works fine.

Have you tried with all plugins disabled?

I'd expect many more reports of this if it affected WordPress 2.8.5

Still happens when all plugins are disabled. I've had this problem with two different sites. I've also had the problem with WP 2.4. I've seen some people complain of similar problems with the image uploader recently. They said that sometimes the image would show up, but other times it wouldn't. I believe that was on the #wordpress channel of the IRC.

Could you provide some more details on your setup?

PHP Version for a start, Safe mode?

Do the files actually get written to the uploads folder? With or without the file extension, Are we talking .jpg? Or another type of file, or all files?

Is it, Or is it not, uploading to the right folder? If not, Where is it writing them to?

Does turning off "Sort into year/month folders" help? (Options -> Misc. i think)

Is the uploads folder chmod'd 777 or something else?

Component: I meant to set it to upload, must've scrolled the mouse..

Milestone: Setting to 3.0 until a cause is found and/or a patch

I reported this as a bug too soon. Was user error on my part. The problem was an incorrect upload location, hence the images not uploading to the right place... Under type, you really aught to have a "user idiocy (resolved)" selection. Sorry for the snafu.
