Tested patch on Firefox 3.5. No problems found.

Not tested on enough platforms and no community discussion of the styling, punting for review in next dev cycle.

This should be proposed through the UI group then. Re-closing.

The styling here forces the update bar to be anchored to the plugin below it, which messes with the appropriate visual, that is, to be entirely included in a single plugin row. I imagine the UI group would say the same.
