One thing I think would reduce mouse clicks is the ability to search for a new theme from the "Manage Themes" page. It could be a quick search, as the "Add new themes" page gives you better control and various parameters to search.

This is also relevant in the plugins area, you can search for existing plugins from the "Manage Plugins" page but you cannot do a quick search for "NEW" plugins. Again, useful and minimizes a mouse click.

Does this make sense for 3.0 or any upcoming release of 2.9.xx?

This UI change would have implications on other design stuff, and I think it should wait for 3.1. I don't want to confuse people with two searches in one section. There does need to be more clarity, but I think this falls outside the scope of 3.0 as determined last week.

I feel like something similar came up during the build out of the new theme administration page for 3.8. It seems like it could be tough to have multiple search boxes on this page.

Right now, if you search existing themes and nothing comes up, the only option that remains on the page is for 'Add New Theme'. If you click 'Add New Theme', you're brought to the standard search page. I wonder if we can bring the original search term over to that page.
