Video embed is confusing

Description

Having the automated video embedding is great, but it's implementation is a bit confusing. My first instinct when trying it out, was to click the "Add Video" button above the WYSIWYG editor. I selected "From URL", added a YouTube link, saved the post, previewed it, and the video didn't show up. It only includes a link to the video. I then watched the 2.9 release video to see exactly how the embedding worked.

Yeah, it's nice that you can simply paste the URL into the editor (or wrap the URL in [embed] tags). But shouldn't you also be able to add the video using the method I just described? It seems like this will be confusing to users.

(This could be already planned for a future release, so if it is, disregard this.)

Agreed that it is confusing. What you suggest was planned for 2.9 but slipped. It is on the slate of things to discuss/do for 3.0. We can create a new ticket once we commit on a direction. I'll close this one in the meantime.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
