Disable Incoming Links Widget on Privacy Option

Description

The installation experience in 3.0 alpha is about like I'd expect until login. Dashboard is the first thing a new admin sees, so it's rather alarming to have the Incoming Links message front and center after using the "I would like to block search engines" option.

"This dashboard widget queries Google Blog Search"

AFAIK, Google Blog Search doesn't require a site to be indexed to track links to it. I agree it kind of looks weird, but the privacy option is just to keep robots out, not to actually lock the blog down to the outside.

  • Milestone 3.0 deleted
  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

I agree with nacin here, Just because the "block search engines" option is set, this does not affect the ability for incoming links to be present.

Closing as wontfix due to that.
