Description
Wouldn't it be nice if for the HTML editor if it had syntax highlighting? There is some for editing themes and plugins (codepress, right?) but there isn't for the post/page editor.
Since writing HTML is easier for users using an editor using syntax highlighting (this is a bare assumption I do not have any scientific grade data about it that would proof it; but I guess that is why syntax highlighting is featured in most editors the over recent years).
Next to the fact that this could be too hard to program/integrate into wordpress are there any real reasons against it?

The 'HTML' tab isn't actually HTML, most of the time; it's plain text that gets converted to HTML via wpautop(). That's why it was recently renamed to 'Text'.
Given this, I don't think we'll ever see syntax highlighting in the Text tab.
There is no Syntax Highlighting in WordPress anymore, see r11673. (Reason not compatible with each browser.)
There is only a new tabbing feature, see #12204.
Maybe we can add it in 3.1 with a new editor, see #12423.
