Page jumps when re-ordering menu items on nav-menus.php

Description

When I have enough menu items in a menu so that the page gets extended and I have to use the scroll bar to see the bottom of the list, if I scroll all the way to the bottom and move a nav item, the page flashes white and jump back up the page a bit.

It seems that if I scroll any lower than the height it jumps back up to it will jump again. But if I stay at that height or go higher, it is fine.

Tried this with a fresh installation of RC1 and just added the default about page over and over until it filled it.

This seems to be due to a bug in jQuery UI sortables, see http://dev.jqueryui.com/ticket/4074 and http://dev.jqueryui.com/ticket/4802

The flash/refresh seems to only occur in Firefox, other browsers just jump to the bottom of the sortable element.

The age of those tickets doesn't hold out much hope for a fix upstream.

  • Keywords menus removed

There was a discussion on IRC about this:
https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=wordpress-dev&day=2010-06-04&sort=asc#m145981

I would vote for wontfix.

I'm cool with wontfix due to my mantra: menus v1. :) It might be a little jarring to get a white flash, but if you can still sort the menu and save it, I'm good.
