#13832 closed defect (bug) (invalid)

wp-signup.php produces invalid html with default themes

Reported by: nkuttler Owned by:
Milestone: Priority: normal
Severity: normal Version: 2.9.2
Component: Multisite Keywords: invalid html

When you visit /wp-signup.php the created output uses the current theme and emebds a <div> with id="content".

As <div id="content"> is already used by twentyten, kubrick, and probably the majority of themes out there this will produce invalid markup in many installs.

If #content is already styled the page layout will easily break.

Simply renaming the id to mucontent would fix this, although it's not clear to me why the div needs an id.

  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

The initial description is incorrect, none of the current or former default themes produce invalid markup.

As a theme developer I was surprised to see that themes apparently have to use a <div id="content"> for content, and that they can't put that <div> into header.php. I'll look into updating the codex.
