Description

It would be nice if wordpress download page includes diffs between different versions. This would make upgrading a bit more easier for people who have modified their wordpress setup.

IMO this is a bit of a pain to maintain. Besides, you shouldn't ever have to modify stuff outside of wp-content, and if you do, then WP is doing something wrong.

Also, I'm sure you could diff the SVN somehow, if you really wanted a diff file.

svn di http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.0.5/ http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.1.1/ > upgrade.diff

But I think this misses SVN externals (namely, Akismet). So to properly diff everything you'd do:

{{{mkdir wp205
mkdir wp211
svn export --force http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.0.5/ wp205
svn export --force http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.1.1/ wp211
diff -ur wp205 wp211 > upgrade.diff
rm -rf wp205 wp211}}}

Although it's easy enough to just upgrade Akismet independently.

Also note that you can use svn export to upgrade an existing install, even if the existing install was originally uploaded via FTP: It'll only touch core WP files (although it never hurts to do a backup)

Bah... WikiFormatting ate that. Guess you need a line break after the opening triple curly and the closing triple curly.

mkdir wp205
mkdir wp211
svn export --force http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.0.5/ wp205
svn export --force http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/tags/2.1.1/ wp211
diff -ur wp205 wp211 > upgrade.diff
rm -rf wp205 wp211
