Description

Custom fields are becoming more and more important, due to advanced theme development and the introduction of custom post types. Yet the WP UI for custom fields has not changed since forever. I thus submit the idea of including a better custom fields UI into the next release. Luckily, a useful starting point seems to be in place with the plugin 'Simple Fields', which I would like the core developers to at least have a look at.

Even if we did include the Simple Fields plugin (which looks pretty awesome by the way), there would always be users that need something slightly different.

Besides, we have a pretty good API for adding metaboxes, so it's pretty easy for plugin authors to add whatever UI they need.
