Import fails to htaccess protected websites

Description

When importing a site to a new Wordress installation, I selected 'Download all attached files'. When the process was running, the following errors popped up:

# Importing attachment http://domain/alex.jpg... Remote file error: Remote file returned error response 401 Unauthorized
# Importing attachment http://domain/andy.jpg... Remote file error: Remote file returned error response 401 Unauthorized
# Importing attachment http://domain/ben.jpg... Remote file error: Remote file returned error response 401 Unauthorized
# Importing attachment http://domain/jamnik.jpg... Remote file error: Remote file returned error response 401 Unauthorized
# Importing attachment http://domain/joanna.jpg... Remote file error: Remote file returned error response 401 Unauthorized
# Importing attachment http://domain/kenn.jpg... Remote file error: Remote file returned error response 401 Unauthorized

This is because my website was password protected by htaccess.

Would it be possible to use cURL to pre-enter a username and password (if someone has this protection), or, since I'm sure this error doesn't occur a lot, ask the user for the username and password as soon as 401 Unauthorized is returned?

Yes it was my fault for forgetting that it was htaccess protected, but now I have to delete everything and run the import again. Just annoying is it not?

This is too much of an edge case for the importer to have to care about.

It told you what was wrong.
