    33here's a "what if" scenario:

    5 what if we were to add mouseenter/mouseleave events to the first & last elements of the list (or to two new elements to the list with decorative up/down arrows) to the dropdown such that the cropping properties were to 'slide' the visible portion of the container? this way you could still limit the size of the list, not have to rely on a scrollbar (using overflow: auto) which would conflict with the pop-out menu to the right, and instead provide a more intuitive natural way of scrolling the box up/down at will?
