Description

I'd like to see support for attaching an asset from the media library to more than one post.

When using WordPRess as a CMS, you often want the same image to appear in different contexts. It's relevant for any site with content placed in multiple taxonomies. A book or a car that should be featured in multiple categories for example.

Say you use a slider plugin (like Soliloquy) that creates sliders as a custom post type, using media attachments for adding images to the different sliders.

Now, you have to upload the same image multiple times to acheive this. That means, that if you need to update the image, you have to repeat that for all instanses (and remember them all), you'll have cache inefficiency, and you'll have to pay extra for CDN (for some sites this could be a major issue in itself).

It goes against good practice not to reuse one instance of an asset rather than managing multiple copies of the same content.

Being able to attach the same instance to more than one post would solve this problem.

As WordPress is used more and more as a CMS, I think this feature should be high on the list.

I'm sure this must be a dublicate request, but I could'nt find other tickets addressing this.
