1	1	I think a more compact solution that does not rely on backbone would provide better stability going forward. It could be done as a fork of backbone or designed to be compatible with it, though. Just saying, if many plugins are going to depend on it, we probably need to own it.

3		I am think something like Carl's code, if not a bit more compact, could become a very baked-in part of core code that doesn't have to be reworked or replaced as we add and remove other libraries.
