Unable to delete or rename category in WP 2.0

I tried to edit the default category (ID 1) and rename it after I had made first post to newly installed wp 2.0 installation (not an upgrade). The edit on the category succeded and even showed up in the editor as well as on the post. However refreshing the main page of the blog (not the admin console) caused the category to regress to Uncateorized.

So, I decided to add a new category, change it to the default and then delete the original "Uncategorized" category. The admin console hangs with a "processing data..." message in this event. I am unable to delete this category. This would be fine if I could simply rename it.

A second way to see this occur was to edit the category, rename both the category and the slug, update, go back to main category page and then try to re-edit the newly changed category. It switched back to the default "Uncategorized" name and slug.

The work around is to disable the WordPress cache. As a webhost I do not give my users file level access nor are they sophisticated enough to disable the cache in that manner; for this reason I believe it is a major problem. Thanks for all the help. - Trip

Works fine for me with the cache enabled, but some people are having strange problems with the cache.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

New default is cache disabled, so I'm closing this. You should only be using the cache if your setup is kosher.
