Description
I find it really annoying to have the Author Dropdown in its own Metabox, there is really no good reason for this I find it annoying that I have to turn it on every installation I make and drag it to the sidebar.
I would very much like to see this integrated into the Publish Metabox below the Status Field and should default to the current user how it currently does.
Unless Wordpress is considering allowing you to tag the current page with multiple Authors but I think until it has that functionality the dropbox would be better suited in the Publish Metabox rather than a Metabox of its own

We could have it like the catergory tag box ? Therefore we can tag multiple users as being Authors, it could be in its own metabox saving overcrowding that and we can have it use autosuggest or complete meaning the issue of large lists of users isn't as bad.

You should look at #19867.
For now, you can put an author dropdown in the publish metabox yourself - see the post_submitbox_misc_actions
hook.

- Keywords ui-feedback ux-feedback removed
- Milestone Awaiting Review deleted
- Resolution set to maybelater
- Status changed from new to closed
You'll want to focus on one thing per ticket, then. #19867 is where discussion/implementation of some sort of suggest box would happen for authors. I'm closing this as maybelater - no chance we are just sticking something else into the publish metabox unless we rethink its default presentation, which would happen separately.
Publish metabox is already overcrowded - not a fan of the idea of shoving even more in there unless we rethink how it looks by default. Also related: #19867
