That item you are refering to is 3 years old. Isn't this worth a new discussion? sitemap.xml is a standard these days. I'd love to be able to generate one without installing a plugin to do it.

We can still continue the discussion here or on the other ticket. There are a number of people subscribed to all the Trac comments.

It we come to an agreement about implementing sitemap.xml support in core rather than considering it plugin territory, the ticket can always be reopened.
