    4 Just realized that an option is not helpful if the admin is inaccessible due to a fatal error. I guess I'd prefer the suggestion in comment:8 then. In most cases where safe mode would be used, the used would still have to deactivate and re-activate plugins one by one to find the culprit, so automatic deactivation makes sense to me.
