SVG admin icons do not adapt to different states

Description

Using the ​official MP6 icon examples (with .mp6 class removed), the custom SVG icon is gray all of the time and does not turn white when the menu is active or blue on hover.

It appears that this is not likely to be fixed. My suggestion would be to use an icon font instead of embedded SVG icons.

I believe the examples evolved during the 3.8 cycle. We include an SVG "painter" to do exactly what you're looking for. I'll see if Helen can explain.

It appears that something has changed between 3.8 alpha and the stable release, as the examples work fine now.
