Limit on number of categories is a problem for me

I'm running 2.01, with Theme "A Blog Apart" version 0.65en.

This theme is very nice, but it doesn't use tags. Specific categories matter to me.

I started my blog last 10/29, and I'm up to close to 600 categories. But Category functionality is breaking down in WordPress. Not all categories are visible in the WRITE screen. If I add a new one, it attaches to the post, but if I re-edit the post, I often lose a new category or two.

I do not have the coding expertise to modify the Theme sufficiently as to make Tags a feature, and I like my current Theme. Couldn't the limit on number of categories be removed?

I think changeset [3693] should fix this.
