Hello rajlaksh, welcome to trac.

Currently I have no idea what you're talking about. Can you explain your issue a little more please, maybe add some screenshots too?

I think the idea is to use post_tags_meta_box() for categories instead of post_categories_meta_box(), so that you have an input with autocomplete, and don't have to scroll through hundreds of categories.

This should already be possible with a plugin.

Thanks You Sergey for Solution :)

I was waiting for it from 3.5.x

Can u Please add it to 4.0?

I'm surprised why No One Pointed it :(

I'm a blog author i've to scroll a lot to reach 1 category to chose. I hope this will solve the issue.

This should already be possible with a plugin.

Sir, which plugin?

  • Component changed from General to Taxonomy
  • Focuses ui administration added
  • Keywords reporter-feedback removed

To me, if someone has over 700 categories, they're probably using categories wrong.. and instead should have a lot of those as tags, or custom taxonomies, instead.

I couldn't see any plugins straight away that switch categories to use a non-hierarchical tag auto-complete input, but that doesn't surprise me, any plugin that does this would want to have some way of showing the existing hierarchy.
The tag input is also designed for those who know the slug of the term, category slugs are much shorter and often don't include the parent in it's slug, which makes context harder to see.

Definitely not impossible, and seems like something that could be a good addition to core when a taxonomy has a large number of terms.

Its seems you are not a WordPress user. 700 categories mean unique not duplicate.

Those 700+ categories define its own posts so no other posts show in it.

Its easy to find all posts that in that category.

I've currently 708 category which is points its own posts.

When i need to post a new post for that 1 category i need to scroll a lot to reach that category which my posts will use.

I am waiting for This from WP 3.5 to till latest. Still its not invented.

Found a plugin that might be useful in the meantime when working with a large number of categories:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-dropdown-hierarchial-category-ui/.

I'm comfortable with this being plugin territory. The default experience is a perfectly good one - I don't see us changing the default for categories/hierarchical taxonomies. For the bigger picture, see #14877.
