Was talking with Matt and Andy about how most people using WordPress will view their blog's front page after publishing, and might discover a typo or other thing that needs correcting.

I do that myself, and I've watched other people use WordPress, and they do the exact same thing. So instead of making them click through to the front page, why not just show it in an iframe view (exactly like the iframe preview) directly under the success message? There could also be edit links above and below the preview in case a mistake is made.

Matt (and Zeldman) made the good point that the iframe preview helps, because it is easier to spot mistakes when the info is presented in your layout... but I think there is also a mental issue at play that leads people to catch more typos after publishing, even if there were using the iframe preview to try and catch them. You simply look harder for errors when you know that something is currently visible to the entire world.

Any thoughts on this?

Agreed. I tend to not really look in depth (for some reason) until it's publicly visible.

Is this still valid? Because we "removed" the preview iframe.

I agree with Nazgul, there used to be a preview iframe, which was removed because of some argument. There is now a preview link that can be used to preview the post before it is published.

While I liked the old behavior better, I believe there is a plugin that adds it back in.
