Post editor corrupts nextpage tag even in HTML mode

If setting: WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically is selected, then:

<!–-nextpage–->

becomes:

< !–-nextpage–->

and is displayed on front end as a text.

Can anyone confirm that nextpage is working at all? I tried nightly build with Twenty Fifteen and it would not produce pages and page links :-/

Update: got page links - I'm not sure why they didn't show up first, perhaps that they were inside paragraph...

But main problem of this ticket remains active.

I can't reproduce. Are you still experiencing this issue in WP 4.1 and are you sure all plugins are disabled? Could you provide more detailed steps to reproduce?

You're right, this time I checked with the wp4.1 and everything looks good. Although I didn't try with the visual editor enabled.
