Not able to create usernames with dots / periods that match other company accounts such as AD/email/etc.

My company tries to keep usernames consistent across services.

Our AD and email format is first.last for usernames.

It seems like this feature has been disabled and it obviously an issue.

I've found articles showing that this can be editing by using .htaccess as well as other core files. This is obviously not optimal. We currently have a Multisite network.

Is this something that could be addressed in the near future?
