In testing, all browsers, including Firefox, can successfully view password protected pages.

Can you offer any insight as to why it's not working for you? Given the link you've posted is over 7 years old, we'd have surely had far more reports of this if it was actually broken..

Does the issue still happen with all plugins disabled and a default theme (Twenty Fifteen or Twenty Fourteen) activated?
