User Taxonomies

Hi there,
are there any plans to make user taxonomies available in the wordpress core? I often come into situations where I would like to categorise users further and being able to register user taxonomies would be a great option.

Just wanted to know if that is something, that has been discussed at all or whether it's something, that will never happen.

The topic has come up in a number of places. There's a pretty good start at a discussion on #31383. I'm going to close this ticket in favor of that one.
