Add New Plugins returns an unknown error

Description

For a week or more, when I go to Find Plugins it won't display any results, just:

An unknown error occurred
Try again

I can download and install plugins from the directory, and the installed plugins screen works fine, it's just Add New Plugins.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, Sue. This sounds like a problem with outbound HTTP requests on your site.

However, this bug tracker is for reporting bugs in the core software, not for troubleshooting problems with individual installations of WordPress. Please start a new thread on the WordPress.org support forums, where someone will be able to help you diagnose the issue. You might also wish to raise the issue with your web host to see if they can help.
