Can't update plugins for version 4.5.3

Description
Recently, my WordPress site was automatically updated to 4.5.3. Now, I can't update any of my plugins. I have tried to update from the update function on the dashboard, and I've tried to un-install and re-install the plugin. Each time I get a fatal error. Luckily, my site had not crashed. The site is located at http://rainbowresearch.org/
The plugins I'm trying to update are:
All In One SEO
Captcha by BestWebSoft 4.2.1
EWWW Image Optimizer 2.9.3
UpdraftPlus - Backup/Restore 2.12.16.1
UDesign 2.10.4.
The error I get is: An error occurred while updating U-Design: Download failed. Failed to write request to temporary file.

The error message you've provided indicates that WordPress is unable to create a temporary file in your systems temporary directory, that's likely due to a misconfiguration of the server.
Unfortunately if the disk isn't writable, WordPress can't really work around that, I'd suggest you contact your web host to diagnose what has changed in their configuration to prevent WordPress updates working as expected.
