Description

Turn "Update"/"Publish" into a button with a dropdown. So if a user selects say Update & Return it will redirect the user back to the posts admin screen. If a users selects the Update & Add New option then it would update that existing post, then redirect to a new posts screen or return to the post list screen instead.

This seems like something that could be explored in the Editor focus this year. (pinging @joen)

Thanks for the ping Mel!

The idea of adding features to the publish button through a dropdown feels potent, moreso than just returning to the posts page. Perhaps there's an opportunity to put last-minute "did you remember to..." features in a bubble dropdown here, before your post is published. Like visibility, post date/schedule, perhaps tags.
