Description

Whenever I am trying to update Twenty Seventeen theme I am getting the following error:

An error occurred while updating Twenty Seventeen: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. footer.php, single.php, style.css, template-parts/post/content.php, template-parts/footer/site-info.php

I tried updating Customizr and it got updated just fine.

Hi @subrataemfluence and welcome to Trac.

Unfortunately this isn't a core WordPress bug - WordPress is unable to modify the files it's mentioned, this is likely due to mixed permissions on the server (or mixed file owners).

You'll need to manually fix the errors on your webhost by using FTP or your web hosts control panel.
Your web host may also be willing to help you fix the inconsistent permissions, you'll have to contact their support for that though.

I'm marking this as invalid due to it being a server configuration issue.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
