Description

This may be a case of it looking for a very particular file, the trouble is that isn't clear if the case.

I discovered this whilst testing the video widget, but assume its media library. I see the following:

Somewhat of a surprise when my media library shows...

  • Focuses ui-copy added
  • Keywords has-patch added

In addition to subtitles, this message appears when attaching an image, audio or video file without any of that type in the library yet.

40806.diff is a simple clarification:
"No items found matching this type."

Of course, there could be a better way to phrase that.

If we want to make the message different for each category instead, giving a list of acceptable file formats could help.

  • Keywords close added

Returning to the original issue of "Subtitles show no media files in browser when there are some" I am unable to reproduce this issue as I cannot find a 'video widget' which has a 'Subtitle' option.

Is this still an issue?

Adding a Video widget (or another legacy widget) now would require a plugin such as Classic Widgets.

In the block editor, you can find the same "No items found." message in other situations when you have images or other items in your library but nothing that matches the type(s) required:

  1. Before you upload any videos, add a Video block, and select Open Media Library.
  2. Before you upload a .vtt (or similar?) file, add a Video block, choose a video you uploaded, select 'Text tracks' in the block toolbar, and select Open Media Library.
  3. Before you upload any audio files, add an Audio block, and select Open Media Library.

(etc.)

I'll leave the 'close' keyword because the ticket was already four years old when I suggested the patch, and that was exactly four years ago.
