initial v1 2 2 3 3 I would agree the TinyMCE is probably rightly stripping out extraneous tags (the same happens in the Post editor), but considering that for the last many, many years we could put HTML in a Text Widget and nothing would mess with it, this could potentially (and unknowingly) affect a lot of people. 4 5 Or maybe I've just been using the Text Widget incorrectly all these years. ;)
