Description

I'm having two problems...

First, I'm unable to upload .mp3 files. When it looks like it has successfully uploaded, I get a message "An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later."

Second, I have tried using the .ftp URL where one of my clients keeps copies of these files. That seems to work, but my readers who use IE are unable to play it. It only plays for Firefox and Chrome.

"but my readers who use IE are unable to play it" I think support for IE is not available, so update your browser. Who uses IE? what version of IE?

@stridentconservative regarding the error:

An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.

Are you able to upload the MP3 from the media library in the WP admin? If may be that the file is too large and your install is rejecting it due to the size. Or it could be that all uploads are blocked entirely and you may need to change your system's permissions.

As for playing MP3s, yes, please share the version of IE. For older versions of IE, this should be handled via a Flash shim in MediaElement.js.

I don't use IE, but many of my readers do. For instance, my wife uses it on her laptop. Not sure of the version.

The file isn't too large. It's only about 3.6 MB. Regardless of the IE part, I should be able to upload a file that small.

@stridentconservative are you able to upload it from the media library in the admin? It should actually indicate the max upload size in the upload form.

Replying to westonruter:

No. I'm not. Admin states that the file can be up to 64 MB. My files are only 3.6 MB.

  • Component changed from Widgets to Media

OK, so then the issue is not specifically regarding the audio widget but rather media in general.

Regarding using an FTP URL for referencing an MP3, this is not going to be supported by browsers. I understand that both Chrome and Firefox are removing support for using FTP URLs for embedded resources.

hi @stridentconservative is this still an issue you are experiencing? I wanted to get some clarification around it being specific to internet explorer. Is that the case? There is no longer support for IE11 as of 5.8 so I am going to close this issue. If this is not specific to IE please feel free to reopen. Just doing some cleanup of our backlog and keeping it accurate. Thank you for your report!
