Oh, I disagree completely. A complete blunder was made and it should be rectified by core, in all decency. I demand this ticket to stay open until it's fixed, somewhere. Then close.

Ok, you are a lead, and I respect your closing. Just sad.

Noting for the papertrail that I'll work on adding the bookmarklet back into the plugin. By being in the plugin, we're able to add it back likely in the next week or so versus weeks or months if being handled within Core proper.
Updates on the restoration process will be documented via https://github.com/WordPress/press-this/issues/15
For background information see #41689 & https://github.com/WordPress/press-this/issues
For now I'm going to close this as
maybelater
. A decision was made in 4.9 to remove it from core and into a plugin whose development can proceed with faster iterations than core. I recognise that some features may have been disabled in that process, some features which some people may have relied upon even. Discussing those issues in the Github repository is the best way to move those issues forward - "Reverting" it isn't necessarily going to fix the underlying reasons why they were disabled in the first place.I do not anticipate that the decision to remove it is going to be reversed now that 4.9 has been released, I'd encourage you to get involved with https://github.com/WordPress/press-this to help move it forward and make it better than it's ever been able to be in Core.
In the event that core needs some changes to make the move to the plugin easier for existing users, new tickets for 4.9.1 to make the transition smoother will be accepted.
