Theme Default Font Color too Light for Readers - across all themes

Description

In recent years the default font color that WordPress appears to have set across all themes (including here) is way too light for most people to see well. As a past user interface programmer and current website designer, I find this amazingly unhelpful to everyone.

I highly suggest that the default font color for all themes be changed to dark blue or black as is the standard handwritten colors using black or navy ink.

There is no benefit to anyone, to have the writing on website be too light for people to read! I spend a ridiculous amount of time on my own websites resetting the font color, as I have not been able to even find a way to change in on my themes directly.

This issue is a critical as far as I am concerned. Creating user-friendly designs is the point of WordPress. So why make the font illegible?

I find reading this light gray font to be a strain on my eyes & I have good eyesight, which I would like to keep, BTW. In addition, I live with a sight-impaired person and know many others who are becoming more and more frustrated at not being able to read forms and general information on websites.

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP. Truly, this light font is completely counterproductive to everyone, whether it is the website owner or the reader.

Thank you for correcting this on the WordPress system level. By doing so you will be making eyes happier on a global level!

I don't understand which text you are referring to, but could you explain this in a post on the Theme Review blog, so that theme authors might get the message?

I'm going to assume that @KathrynShantiAriel is referring to the Twenty Seventeen theme on the front-end as there isn't any particularly light text in the dashboard that I could fine. Having said that, Twenty Seventeen looks like most, if not all text is black so I'm not sure either.

I am referring to all themes that I have used, although in this case, I am using Panoramic by Out of the Box.

But even here in this form that I am writing in, the font is light gray. I see it all the time on websites for businesses and other things. Perhaps it is a theme by theme issue (I am communicating with OUt of the Box, BTW), but if so, then why is this comment box also in light gray.

It seems that this has become the industry standard, and I feel this must change back to black or dark blue to allow people the full benefit of using the Internet.

Thank you!

Hey @KathrynShantiAriel, is the text still light grey if you use a different browser? I'm wondering if you've somehow changed your browser settings. The text here, for example, is pretty dark (#444).

@KathrynShantiAriel please consider WordPress is not responsible for the colors theme authors decide to implement for their themes. The only themes WordPress is responsible for, are the bundled ones: Twenty Seventeen, Twenty Sixteen, etc. and I'm pretty sure they all pass the WCAG requirements for color contrast.

The text in the comment form in this page inherits the default which is a full black for me #000000. DOes the text is still light gray for you if you test using a different device? I suspect something in your device settings :)

Yes, I will be happy to do so. I have already contact Out of the Box whose themes I am having this challenge with. I will also double check on the themes that I have from Studio Press.

If it is at a theme level then I am happy to give them details. Thank you.

Thank you Mel - The message from you was dark and easy to read, but when I opened it in this window it became light gray. Perhaps it is the browser. i will check. :-)
