Website-Icon with filename "favicon.ico.png" causes problems

Description

Hello,

I added an Website Icon with the name "favicon.ico.png" via Customizer. After that I got PHP errors and wasn't able to log in to my site any longer (field user name is empty). I swtched wp debug on and got this error:
preg_replace(): Compilation failed: missing terminating ] for character class at offset 30 in formatting.php on line 4669

After I removed all database entries with favicon.ico.png in it, all was fine again...

Hi @infonetzlichtcom, and welcome to Trac.

I'm unable to replicate this behavior on a fresh installation. Are you still able to replicate it with a default theme and with no plugins activated?
