4.9.8 has broken user roles - Shop_Manager not able to add new items to woocommerce

Description

Sorry if I'm missing details or have raised this incorrectly, its my first time here. Happy to help where I can/ respond to questions.

I have found that users in the "Shop_Manager" role are no longer able to publish new woo-commerce items. Clicking on "Products - > Add new" takes them to a blank page or returns a memory error (Admin users still able to publish).

This has been tested on:

  • Different machine
  • Different OS (Mac OS and Windows)
  • Different Users
  • Users with different User roles

Issue seems to resolve if following capability is added to the shop_manager role:

  • manage_options (but this gives the users too much access and visibility to other sections of the admin tools)

Hi @pedramm, welcome to Trac!

I can't reproduce the problem you describe with WP 4.9.8 and WC 3.4.3.

Can you please let us know which version of WC you're using, as well as the theme and any other plugins you have active?

You might also try to disable all plugins other than WC (and any WC extension plugins you're using) and activate the Twenty Seventeen theme...to determine if the problem is related to your theme or other plugins.

  • Severity changed from major to normal

I've tested with WP 4.9.8 and WC 3.4.4 and everything seems OK. Seems most likely a theme-plugin conflict issue.

Hi @pbiron

Thanks for your response.

Following your advice I checked the active plugins and turns out W3 Total Cache was the causing the issues. A bit strange since it was only affecting users in the Shop_manager role. I have deactivated it for now.

Thanks and cheers,

Pedram

It seems like a caching issue, but clearing cache wouldn't fix it so I have deactivated the plugin.

Thank you

In that case I think your best bet is to post a thread in the WooCommerce support forums and hopefully one of the volunteers from Woo will be able to help you out.

If this turns out to be a bug in WordPress core, please feel free to re-open this issue!
